Caspar learns how to say no…
He has understood Yes and No for quite a while so I’m not sure why he has taken so long to use it. I ask him questions a lot.
Do you want to go for a walk?
Are you ready for a bottle?
Would you like a story?
Do you want to draw?
Are you clever?
He nods when the answer is yes, but just stares when he isn’t that interested. Until recently. Now I’m getting the shaking of the head every now and then. A picture of things to come, I’m sure. At the moment, however, this appears to be less of an emphatic statement and more of a joke. He seems to think it is funny to shake no when he means yes, the same way he likes to hold things out to me and then snatch them back.
Now when I put him to bed and say, Lie down on your pillow, he gets all snuggly and tucked in and then shakes his head at me with a big grin on his face as though he doesn’t want to go to sleep even though he is obviously happy and looking forward to his bottle.
He’s a comedian, my Cas.
I wonder how long it will be before No no longer amuses me?

At least you have the foresight to know it’s coming…. The “NO” phase.

I’m sure NO will cease being funny soon. Then you get into the talking back…..and the arguing….and the smart mouth comments….and teh temper tantrums. But never fear. The snuggles outweigh it all. And the hugs and kisses and playing and sweet smiles!

A week, maybe two? Enjoy it while you can.
I just came upon your site a few weeks ago. Love your style and wanted to say hi!

I now have a sense of foreboding.
Only kidding! He does seem to be getting a little more demanding now, more tears to express that he wants something. But he’s getting a molar at the moment so it could be more that than the early onset of the Terrible Twos.
At the moment he’s also babbling a little more and occasionally making sounds that sound like words. Apart from Ta for Thank You, though, I’m never quite sure if I’ve heard right. Still no “Mama”.
And yes, Enola, the snuggles will always outweigh all of it. I love him so much more than i could ever express.
Mercurial Scribe, thank you and “Hi” to you too. I’m sorry you’ve arrived at a time when the blog is a little abandoned and posting is so hurried. If you like it now, I promise it will get better when life returns to normal.
