About
I started writing this page before I really faced the fact that I was depressed. But it’s something for those who want some needles in the haystack of who I am. If you want to know what this blog is about, at the moment it is about this.
Who Is Cerebralmum?
Meaningless Raw Data?
- A 30-something single mother of one son.
- Born in New Zealand, migrated to Australia with mother, adoptive father and older sister when 6.
- Grew up in NE Victoria, now based in Melbourne.
- Attended 5 different primary schools and three different high schools.
- Left home in the middle of final year at high school, first boarding with the couple who ran the school canteen, then living in an apartment funded by the school. Managed to graduate in spite of having to drop a class and work nights at McDonald’s. Just.
- Dropped out of university twice, first as an Australian Cultural Studies major, then as a History major.
- Completed a Ass.Dip in Prof. Writing & Editing but never bothered applying to graduate so probably can’t claim that as a qualification either.
- Has worked as an accounts clerk, a promotional model, a corporate librarian, an office manager, a waitress, a functions co-ordinator, a temp, a bartender, a cocktail waitress, a floor manager and a payroll clerk. Of those, cocktail waitressing was the best and promotional modelling was the worst.
- Has done unpaid work as a script consultant, as an editor and as an adult literacy tutor.
- Has a pile of writing that nothing has ever been done with, including one finished short film script, one unfinished feature-length script, one unfinished novel and numerous poems and short stories. Only one short story has ever been submitted for publication. It was rejected.
- Has one publication credit: An opinion piece written for Overland on the 150th anniversary of The Communist Manifesto. Go figure.
Some Isms?
- Is a philosophical anarchist.
- Is agnostic and considers atheists to have as much potential for fundamentalism as religious people do.
- Is a feminist, without the but. But many feminists would disagree.
- Is an absurdist who chooses to capitalise the word Truth.
- Has been called a relativist, but doesn’t necessarily consider this an insult.
- Is concerned about social justice and human rights. In solitude.
- Knows that talking is the only thing that has ever changed the world.
- Chooses to believe that individuals are entirely responsible for themselves and their lives, not because it is entirely true, but because it is functionally true.
- Believes that perception can be creation.
- Believes that an individual’s most important responsibility is to be brutally honest with themselves.
- Believes that individuals who are brutally honest with themselves have the most capacity to be understanding and loving towards others, friends and strangers alike.
- Believes the word love can be used in far more situations than is common in the English language.
- And uses it.
